Yanks win 4-1 thanks to getting to Verlander early with 4 in the 1st. Verlander was awesome rest of the game but the Astros' offense didn't catch up.
Game 6 tonight will be the battle of the bullpens apparently. The Astros’ starters have gone 7+ innings in all but 2 of their 10 playoff games and the bullpen is basically fully rested and only used Peacock for 1 inning yesterday. The Yankees' pen has thrown 35 2/3 innings their last 8 playoff games, nearly as many as the starters.
With the game in Houston you'd think advantage Astros but who knows.
I honestly think we see a game 7 and a big time pitching matchup of Cole vs Severino

I feel like I won the WS. No Yankees and no Cardinals! I spilled my drink at the bar watching that walk off.
It's even sweeter with it being against Chapman. Eases my pain from the Torres-Chapman trade we made years ago.

I watched the walk off at home live and was awesome. Love Altuve - mostly because he was one of my keepers for several season in my fantasy baseball league before it folded. Also kept Correa and Springer too, so that's why I have an affinity for this team.
Nats vs Astros. Strong pitching on both sides but I give the edge to the Astros with home field, a better lineup and more recent postseason experience to draw from.

Going to go with Astros in 6 too. I'm pulling for the Nats but I just think the strong pitching from the Astros will be too much.

Cubs to hire David Ross as manager, reports Jon Heyman. It was his job to lose the whole time. I've grown more to the idea of him being a manager because I think he can be what the team needs. Everyone says he's tough but fair and I think the team got too lazy with Maddon and all his quirks year after year. From all accounts, he's going to hold the guys accountable and I know that's what Theo Epstein was looking for.

The Philadelphia Phillies are hiring former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi as their next skipper, according to multiple reports. Listening to ESPN this morning and they were saying the Phillies are letting it be known they plan to win now and will be aggressive in free agency. So Girardi makes sense for them. They need pitching as well. Not sure if Cole is in their range but I can see them looking at Madison Bumgarner if he becomes available.

My friend who is a Dodgers fan: "I'm going to be so disappointed with the Dodgers keeping Roberts, when they don't get Cole or Rendon, have to settle for some guy like Zach Wheeler and just rely on their young talent next season en route to another 100+ win season but falling short of the World Series title"
Me, the Mets fan:
"I'm not going to be surprised when the Mets make a questionable managerial hire, lose Wheeler to free agency, make an array of random non-star additions like bringing back Asdrubal Cabrera OR a weird trade like getting Cano/Diaz en route to a .500 record and missing the playoffs"
Yup. Gotta love listening to the guy complain about his team who has made the playoffs every year since 2013, has had 3 losing seasons since 1993, consistently boasts one of the largest payrolls in the game.......
This must be how Clippers fans feel every time Laker fans complained

100%. As a Reds fan it's even worse. I have a couple Cubs fans and a Dodgers fan in my life. I'm sorry, let me be your shoulder to cry on, fan of a team that consistently has a new All Star calibre player coming up from AAA every damn year to go along with your $200M yearly payrolls. Dont mind me and my $100M payroll (which is "breaking the bank" according to our ownership). Oh, you fell short of the WS again? That's a shame. I'm still waiting to see my team win ANY playoff series since 1995. Tomato/tomahto, am I right?

Funny how the rebuttal usually is: "Didn't the Mets make the World Series in 2015? Why are you complaining? You should be happy". This is true. They did. 2015 was just a weird anomaly of a year. This year 4 teams won over 100 games. In 2015 no teams did. The Mets were led in innings pitched by Bartolo Colon. Let that sink in. They didn't have a hitter get 30 homers or 75 rbis. Let that sink in. The leaders on the team that season would have ranked 67th and 92nd this season. The Mets won 90 games in a crap division where only other team above .500 was Washington with 83 wins. The Mets barely scraped by the Dodgers in the 1st round and beat up an improving but still growing Cubs team in the 2nd round. The Mets really just had some good momentum that they built during the regular season..... and then lost to the Royals in the World Series. The Royals. Who after nearly 30 years of being crappy, became good for a 3 year span - and are back to being crap again. This was just the World Series of which moribund franchise would magically be on top for that one year and it wasn't the Mets.
That said, could they go on another magical run and make the World Series in 2020? I mean, sure. I'm a heckuva lot more excited now than I've been in awhile because of Pete Alonso and Jacob DeGrom
Lineup: Alonso, Conforto, Rosario, Ramos, JD Davis, McNeil, Nimmo, Cano - and hey, maybe Cespedes decides to stay healthy Starting Pitching: DeGrom, Syndergaard, Stroman, Matz, Lockett Bullpen: Diaz, Lugo, Wilson, Familia, Gsellmanm
A lot of their top prospects are in the lower levels of the minors but some good pitching and infield prospects out there - whether to be traded or called up
I mean, heck, I might actually actually excited for 2020..... well I could be. Still need to see who they hire to be manager and what other moves they make.

Strasburg vs Verlander is going to be an epic game 6.
IF there is a Game 7, I do hope Max is OK and at that point all hands on deck for both teams. Astros could very well go Greinke + Urquidy + even some Cole on short rest before turning to the bullpen. That's going to be a rough one for the Nats and their dormant bats. Even if they can go some combo of Scherzer, Sanchez, Corbin themselves.

main complaint for Dodger fans is that it has been way too long.. 1988.. last 2 years have been extra brutal by losing in the World Series.. not to mention the fact that the Gnats were able to win multiple championships..

Nice of Verlander to do his Kershaw impression this series.
Hopefully Stros pull it out..I wouldn't mine Soto & Bregman both catching one in the shoulder blades..as I don't like either one of them. Mostly Soto

How crazy is it that if the Nationals win tonight, every win went to the road team. I would be surprised if that has ever happened before in a series, let alone the World Series.
Verlander. Man. Hard to say giving up 4 runs in 6 innings in Game 2 and giving up 3 runs in 5 innings last night is a choke job but given the caliber pitcher he is and the regular season he had, it really is.
That said, I put just as much blame on the Astros hitters last night than I do Verlander. They didn't get it done and blew several opportunities.
Anyhow, go Astros
