I didn't start watching till the 7th inning where it got good. Glad to see the Nationals bring it home. I like the Astros but every since Kuechel (ya boy Oak) said something about the Cubs while he was in Houston, I'm not rooting for the Astros unless it's against the Yanks lol. I hold a grudge. Plus I think the Astros started acting a lil cocky since their championship in 2017.
Craziest stat I saw was the 2014 Detroit Tigers once had a starting pitching rotation of Justin Verlander, David Price, Max Scherzer, Anibal Sanchez and Rick Porcello. Five years later, they have all won the World Series.

My friend asked me after the game how many current teams had never won a World Series. I was able to come up with the Nationals (until now obviously), Brewers, Mariners, Rockies, Rangers and Rays (the last two being obvious given how new they are). I just missed the Padres - ironic given I've been a SoCal guy my entire life.
She said "wow, you're really good at sports trivia". I said "No, I'm just very familiar with teams not winning titles. Outside of the Lakers, none of the teams I support has won a title in the last two decades"

Besides the Blackhawks (and admittedly I'm not huge hockey fan), I went through 30+ years of not seeing one of my teams win a championship. Knicks are a disaster and I find myself not really watching/cheering for them. Cubs drought is common knowledge and the Bears haven't won since 1985. I'm old enough to remember that at least.
I cheered for the Lakers when I was younger (Magic days) but I didn't really consider myself a Lakers fan more than I was a Magic Johnson fan. I find myself drifting back that way with basketball. Becoming more of a fan of players and following them versus just ride or die with a ballclub.

@mets to hire Carlos Beltrán as manager, reports Anthony DiComo.
Atleast they hired someone with a track record of managerial experi-...oh wait

Normally I'd knock the Mets but it's the trend now. Instead of grooming these guys by making them go through the managerial ranks, they are grooming them upstairs as advisers first. Not shocked he landed it. He turned down some interviews because this was the job he wanted most.

Naitonals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg has opted out of his contract according to ESPN.com
- Could be a rough offseason for the Nats. Re-signing Rendon and now Strasburg could easily be the 2 biggest contracts in the offseason. Strasburg is going to want a raise and the rumor is the Padres (his hometown) may show some interest. The Angels are also another team in the market for a starting pitcher.

Braves declined their option on ole faithful Julio Teheran. 77-73 career record..but that's basically who he is. Maybe that puts the Braves going after a high end starter..certainly not Cole since they are cheap..but I wouldn't hate on Bumgarner

Bumgarner would be a nice pickup. But I dont think he'll be cheap either. He's only 30 and we all know starting pitching is a premium so I can't see the Braves competing in that market for him especially when you have major bullpen issues.
The team I'm scared will land him is the Brewers. I'm hearing they are ready to spend this offseason on a starting pitcher.

JD Martinez does not opt-out of his contract with the #RedSox, which means $23.75M in 2020, & a chance to opt-out again next winter. He’s a potential trade candidate this offseason as Boston looks to shed payroll.

I would be ecstatic with Grandal and Didi. Irony being both guys were Reds early in their careers and allowed to leave (or traded) because they were blocked.

I'm not expecting much in free agency. I think if the Cubs shake things up it'll be at the winter meetings with trades.

Losing Zack Wheeler to the Phillies would be ugh.
Rangers signing Donaldson to 3 years 75M and Ryu to 3 years 54M just feels like the type of deals that'd fail. Even though I like Ryu.
And cool, the Mets get Craig Stammen and Ivan Nova. Nothing like signing two guys who will be 36 and 33 next season to be back of the rotation starters to really excite the fanbase.

Atlanta has “made Bumgarner a priority and planned to quickly communicate that to the left-hander,” Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports California reports. If Bumgarner doesn’t re-sign with the Giants, the Braves are the front-runners for his services, according to Pavlovic.
I'd take Bum at 4 year $72 mil

At least one player among the Mookie Betts/Francisco Lindor/Kris Bryant group will be traded this offseason, in the opinion of multiple @mlb team execs I’ve checked with over the last 24 hours. @mlbnetwork
Mookie in right, Acuna in center, Riley/Duval/Markakis in left please and thanks
Also saw Cubs would listen to offers for Contreras..we have his little brother in minors..we'll take him too

www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28060458/mets-slugger-pete-alonso-wins-national-league-rookie-yearAlonso got 29 of 30 votes Braves P Mike Soroka got the other 1st place vote Apparently the one vote was by Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic and he actually had to write a whole article justifying his pick. Unanimous vs nearly unanimous honestly doesn't mean anything but this is a stupid vote. Any 1st place vote not for Alonso in the NL or Yordan Alvaraz in the AL is stupid and he was the lone detractor. Part of me thinks he did it just to generate attention to his pay website.

I was wondering who the vote was..and you have to sign up for The Athletic..what was his reasoning? I mean Soroka was really unlucky with run support..could have easily been 20-4. But that doesn't really hold a hat to Alonso, who I'd never heard of until after 1st month of season. But I can agree..he probably went for the clicks

His logic, aside from the Braves being the better team, was that Soroka was really really good at NOT allowing home runs. Apparently only giving up 14 home runs is more impressive than hitting 53 home runs, leading the MLB and setting a rookie record. I guess if you really think balls are juiced and home runs are less valued you can try and make that spin. Never mind Alonso being 3rd in RBIs, 5th in offensive WAR, 6th in Slugging %, 9th in Runs, 2nd in Total Bases, 5th in Adjusted OPS, 1st in Extra Base Hits and doing so in a lineup that didn't give him much protection outside of Michael Conforto. The guy was far and away the engine of that offense. He also did all this as a pure rookie, whereas Soroka did have the benefit of playing 5 games last season. Not much but still an edge in terms of preparation.
Obviously I'm biased but I think this is clearly a case of the writer trying to stir up controversy for clicks. The guy actually "apologized" for his vote and is trying to draw people to his site where you have to pay to see the article. The motive is clear here.

Yea..I was biased to for my boy Soroka..but run support knocking away 6-7 wins was all I had lol. I like Alonso, good character guy too. I like him better than Bregman who can rub you the wrong way if ur not a Stros fan
Now Alonso needs to focus on being a .290 guy with 35-40 homers and get the strikes outs down from 183 and average up from .260 and he'll be a MVP candidate.

He can get there with better lineup protection. When the guys around you are Michael Conforto, JD Davis, Todd Frazier, Juan Lagares, Amed Rosario, Wilson Ramos and the ghost of Robinson Cano, there are only so many pitches you're going to see.
Plus the pressure of chasing the rookie home run record got to him too.
Pre All-Star: He hit .280 and had a strikeout every 3.53 at bats. Post All-Star: He hit .235 and had a strikeout every 2.99 at bats.
Had he kept up his pre All-Star pace all season........
Real: 103 runs 155 hits 30 doubles .260ba 53 hrs 120 rbis 183 strikeouts
Potentially: 105 runs 167 hits 39 doubles .280 ba 55 home runs 125 rbis 169 strikeouts
Doesn't seem like a huge difference but that 2nd line is just that much more impressive

Cards and Wainwright agree to 1 year deal
Naturally he'll get a nice raise from his 1 year 2M deal he got coming off 4 seasons of either injuries/ineffective pitching. 14-10 record 4.19 ERA in 31 starts this season.
It'd be nice to see him maybe play two more seasons and retire a Cardinal having spent his whole career there, starting 2005. Not even remotely a HOF pitcher but he had a nice stretch from 2007 to 2014 - missing 2011 to injury, when the Cards actually won the World Series with one of the more mediocre pitching staffs you'll ever see.

MLB is gonna go in, no lube, on Houston. Already stories about the Nats having up to 5 different sets of signs for the WS because this was an "open secret" amongst teams for the past few seasons.

Yea more is coming out about it since I got home from work. Not a good look..cameras in center field. Also odd that pitchers have career numbers with Astros last few years. Was talk a while back with the spin rate on Astros pitchers and if they were using pine tar or not.

Our own Trevor Bauer was the one who made that accusation if memory serves.
Also, talks of the Rangers and Brew Crew doing this as well. And the Brewers are run by?..... a former Astros FO member!
