That's some Oak level Laker hate there on AD Vars.
Sadly you're not wrong.

That's some Oak level Laker hate there on AD Vars. Sadly you're not wrong. I hate to do it to my fellow Chicagoan but AD has frustrated me as a player almost since he came in the league. I will say though this year he seemed to invest more in his conditioning and body so maybe he gets through without injury.

I'm still a Lakers "fan" I mean..I was hardcore in the Kobe era.. But I'm ready for the LBJ era to end..and they can retool and I can go back rooting for them. I'm not rooting for LBJ to win. I'll just pull for Warriors vs Heat, and hope my fantasy guys play well and healthy.
I'm pullin for my guy AD tho! killing it for my Dynasty league...until that back acts up.

A quarter of the season over and the Pelicans are 2nd in the West. Didn't see that happening but looks like getting Zion back with CJ and Ingram is working out. And Jose Alvarado is playing well for them.
My disappointment team would've been the Lakers 2 weeks ago but gotta hand that award to the TWolves. So far I don't like the KAT/Gobert pairing and it looks like it's affecting Edwards and DLo driving. Or maybe it's because they lost their MVP Pat Bev.
Bulls would be a very close 2nd. 9-14 with that talent.

Agree % on T-Wolves..Edwards can't get in the lane with 2 bigs and he didn't have his first dunk until like a week ago. and having KAT running around on the perimeter chasing 4's and ending up on switches isn't working.
Mine is my Bulls..and I think Lonzo's career is going to end up a short one. and they'll break up the Bulls soonish.

I didn't see 2nd in the West either but that team has one of the best SLs in the league, has a solid bench and honestly they have a legitimately solid top 14. Definitely an exciting squad.
Disappointment to me is that the Heat are under .500. Yeah Jimmy and Herro have missed time but still

Russia has freed WNBA star Brittney Griner in a dramatic high-level prisoner exchange, with American officials confirming to ESPN's T.J. Quinn that the U.S. is releasing notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

I don't claim to be some expert on Geopolitics. Yeah my BA was in International Studies with a focus on International Peace and Conflict Studies but that was many moons ago and my Masters was in something wildly different. Having said that, I obviously do care about such thing and I pay enough attention to have a rational take on this subject - and to say that 90% of the social media takes are pure nonsense.
(A) Yes on the surface trading an Arms Dealer for a WNBA star looks lopsided. It'd like trading Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown - but not getting all the side stuff that made it make sense big picture. Guys, this isn't professional sports. Russia had the leverage. Objectively speaking this was the best the government can do at this time.
(B) Yes it'd have been great to get Paul Whelan. The U.S. tried. Tried to do 2 for 2. Russian said no. If it was that easy to get Whelan, it'd have happened by now. You know who also tried to get Whelan? Trump. The guy who is buddy buddy with Putin and would have loved to have claimed the glory of getting Whelan back every chance he got, esp. for the 2020 election. A lot harder to get the American charged with espionage versus the one charged with cannabis. Funny how people saying the government doesn't care about those who serve and protect us and would rather prioritize a black LGBT athlete are also the same people who seem to not give a crap about what happened to the capitol police on January 6.
(C) Biden was damned if he did, damned if he didn't. He does this trade, he gets blasted - mostly unfairly by uneducated folks on the subject, like Micah Parsons for example (to his credit he owned that his initial take was wrong). He doesn't do this trade and it gets out that he could have, he'll get swallowed alive for not taking the opportunity to get someone unjustly held as a political pawn like Griner free. Especially by celebs who deem themselves social activists, see James, Lebron. Given the two options, probably best he "did" because at least in this scenario one American gets to be freed and home for the holidays safe and sound. Not great to have the "Merchant of Death" floating back to Russia but it is what it is.

Via HR: "The Mavericks and Pistons recently “touched base” on trade talks in which Nerlens Noel was among the players discussed, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv. "
Forgot, again, Noel is on Detroit.
Given Javale McGee has flopped hard as a free agent signing, back to the well again for a defensive big. Plus Noel is a former Mav and would be reuniting with Kleber, Powell, Finney-Smith to basically just have the same exact frontcourt except replacing that Dirk fella with Christian Wood (which actually is an upgrade given that was 39 year old 12ppg Dirk).

Man I had the Javale one wrong. I drafted him in both leagues thinking he was gonna be like a 12-9 2 blocks guy and 70% FG.

I agree with a lot of things EE said regarding Brittany. I'm glad she's home and I think it's natural to feel a lot of ways about the situation. Did we give up an arms dealer for a basketball player? But if she's not a basketball player, does this even happen? It's just a lot to take in about the situation in general. My hope though for Griner is she takes things seriously. She's had issues before and the last look she needs if she comes home and gets in trouble again. People will rip this decision even more than they are. I was discussing it with a co-worker and tried to lighten the mood. I said we could have at least gotten Griner and 2 prisoners to be named later. Or throw in some picks.

What made it worse for Griner is she perceived as "hating America" due to her comments in 2020 about removing the national anthem from the games, and sports in general.
So it's not just we traded an arms dealer for a wnba player but did so for a black lesbian America-hating wnba pothead and boy is that a lot of material for the Right to work with.
Should have been:
Russia gets Viktor Bout America gets Brittney Griner, cash considerations and pinky swear they won't start World War 3 by nuking Ukraine

Lakers lost but did make a nice comeback. Could have won if they ya know, hit free throws. Or Lebron not going 1-8 on threes.
Reaves with 25-2-5 and 2 steals 4 threes shot 60%
He's one of the 45 free agents the Lakers have this summer. Curious what type of deal he'd command. His QO is incredibly low so if the Lakers wanted to maintain 2023 cap space, he's probably the one dude whose rights they wouldn't renounce.

Saw on twitter that NY is asking for a 2nd rd pick (or player on rookie contact) for Cam Reddish.
They gave up a 1st rd pick pick and Kevin Knox (who they used #9 overall on in 2018) for him.
Talk about depreciation on multiple levels here.

HR has a blurb about Kuzma and mentions SAC being a suitor who can offer Barnes + Davion Mitchell.
Honestly, if I'm WAS I;m 100% intrigued by Mitchell. He'd instantly solidify that PG spot and be a great fit next to Beal - provided the dude ever gets healthy

The Lakers have discussed packages including salaries and a protected first round pick with the Detroit Pistons for Bojan Bogdanovic. The Pistons acquired Bogdanovic from the Utah Jazz before the start of the season and then signed him to a two-year, $39.1 million extension.
The Lakers have also discussed concepts with the New York Knicks for Cam Reddish and Evan Fournier.
The Phoenix Suns recently engaged in three-team trade talks that would have resulted in Jae Crowder to the Milwaukee Bucks, four second round picks from the Bucks and players to the Houston Rockets, and Eric Gordon and/or Kenyon Martin Jr. to the Suns.
The hold up in the trade was that the Rockets are seeking a first round pick each for Gordon and Martin rather than four second rounders. The Rockets have received interest on Gordon from several contending teams. Houston has been less willing to entertain trading Martin, who is having a breakout third season.
The Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks are also interested in Crowder.

Aiding and abetting the tank.
Pistons at 7-22 have the worst record in the league.
The tank really is just between DET, SA, HOU, CHA, ORL
Spurs and Magic on inexplicable 3 game winning streaks though.

Agreed
MJ for MVP. Obviously. Was either him or Kareem really.
Hakeem was a great defender but when I think of DPOY, he is not even remotely the name I think of. I go more towards Mutombo, Ben Wallace, Rodman than him. I'm sure Russell would make sense too but he has finals MVP named after him.
Wilt as ROY. I guess. He was so amazing as a rookie he also won MVP.
Havlicek as 6MOY. I mean, I guess I never thought about who came off the bench during that Morons dynasty so his name doesn't come up right away. Mikan as MIP. Huh? Why? If anything name it after TMac.
Jerry West for Clutch Player? This is just dumb. Love West but this is the NBA trying too damn hard.
Awards needs to make sense. Like naming All Star MVP for Kobe.

BREAKING: Billionaire mortgage lender Mat Ishbia is finalizing a purchase of the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN. The deal, expected to be completed in the near future, would end the tumultuous tenure of owner Robert Sarver.

So Phoenix not only gets rid of Sarver but brings in a multi-billionaire who will realistically not be "cheap"?
I mean, that's about as solid as the Mets ownership change.

Really no different than what the Dodgers have been doing the last decade
In 2013, they had the 2nd largest payroll
In 2014, they had the largest payroll
In 2015, they had the largest payroll
In 2016, they had the largest payroll
In 2017, they had the largest payroll In 2018, they had the 3rd largest payroll In 2019, they had the 4th largest payroll
In 2020, they had the largest payroll
In 2021, they had the largest payroll
In 2022, they had the largest payroll
Managed to turn this into 10 playoff appearances, 3 world series trips and 1 title.
I'm sure the Mets would take that

Had no idea Jeannie Buss was dating Jay Mohr.
Then again I had no idea Jay Mohr was married to Nikki Cox, of Unhappily Ever After fame - aka the wanna be Married with Children (unlike the actual spin off Top of the Heap, which had Joey from Friends).
Mohr to me will always just be Bob Sugar

I didn't however know Jay has let him self go and put on the weight
