Free agent Kelly Oubre Jr. has agreed to a two-year, $26M-plus deal with the Charlotte Hornets,
LaMelo, Ish Smith Rozier, Bouknight Hayward, Oubre, Martin, Martin Washington, Bridges Plumlee, Jones, Carey Jr.
Clearly going to be an uptempo team. Lots of wings..and lob players, and big men who can run.

Hornets went from being a really shallow, undersized team to looking fairly deep. More importantly it's a young squad with a ton of upside. Bouknight was a gift in the draft and in 2 years I can easily see this team having moved off their vets in Rozier/Hayward/Plumlee to an exciting lineup of LaMelo, Bouknight, Bridges, Washington, Kai Jones. Maybe Oubre crashes the party too, we'll see. Either way kudos to the team for the roster building with a mix of young talent and veterans. If they can move Hayward, they are set up for huge huge cap space in 2023 where they could be an intriguing FA destination with what they've built.
Curious what now for Markkanen. Back to CHI on the QO?
Time for the Clips to do something already. Re-sign Kawhi and Jackson and Boogie and try to convince the other aging veterans like Millsap and Avery Bradley to come on board?

The Blazers landed Cody Zeller and Tony Snell while also inviting Michael Beasley, Kenneth Faried and Emmanuel Mudiay — all of whom played in China last season — to play for its summer league team.
They getting my boy Dame some help!, just gotta work out the summer league kinks on some former NBA ballers lol

On the one hand, don't blame him. Bulls look like they've moved on from him after they didn't extend him last summer, drafted a PF in Williams #4 and then trading for Vuc. He only played 25.8mpg and was a reserve as much as a starter.
On the other hand, he doesn't have much leverage since he's a restricted FA, there isn't much cap space out there after CHA signed Oubre (just Dallas and they may view Lauri as wildly redundant to Porzingis, including the injuries) and the Bulls could easily match a mediocre offer rather than lose him for nothing. As noted, his resume simply isn't that good. Injuries. Mediocre production. Declining play since his breakout 2nd season.
Ultimately Lauri is suffering from Dennis Schroder-like delusion. He could have easily been a Spur right now on a good long term deal as part of the DeRozan S&T and flourished with a big role on a team that was perfect for his skillset. This would have been amazing for his career. No team was better suited for him than the Spurs with their history and their frontcourt need. Instead he wanted so much $ that the Spurs literally said "Nah, we'll just take expiring contracts and picks" and be happy with that McBuckets/Collins stack.

FWIW they also signed Ben McLemore. If Mudiay and Faried can stick - and at 25/31 at least they aren't ancient - they'd provide depth at the two needed spots at PG behind Dame/Simons and then at PF with some toughness since their current PF rotation is undersized with converted SFs. I wouldn't bother with Beasley.
All that said, this offseason has been a disaster for the Blazers in terms of convincing Dame they can build a winner there. You want to make your star happy, you make moves. Like Milwaukee did. And arguably what Washington did this offseason. We'll see if it pans out but right now Beal is

Heat Lowry trade finalized. TOR gets Dragic and Achiuwa. Heat also re-sign 7'0" Omer Yurtseven.
In addition to Reggie/Kawhi, Clippers also sign Justice Winslow to 2 year deal. If healthy, big IF, this is a very solid move. One of the most versatile players in the league. Clippers finally making moves.
Nice pickup for the Bucks with Allen. Guess Memphis really preferred the 2nd rd picks

Clippers:
G: Jackson, PatBev, Rondo, Preston (R) G: Mann, Kennard, K. Johnson (R), Boston (R) F: PG, Winslow F: Morris, Batum C: Zubac, Ibaka, Oturu INJ: Kawhi
Up to 15 players and has a good 9 man rotation. That said, this depth chart as is has play-in team written all over it in the tough West. Have to figure they are shopping most, if not all, the expiring deals of Rondo/Ibaka/PatBev. Especially to fill out that frontcourt depth.

I'd probably start Luke to space the floor and all the money they threw at him. And really hope Mann makes a bigger jump next year. Hell..get anything out of Ibaka is a plus since his back gave them nothing. Yea, that looks like a 9thish seed.

Hey all,
Hope everyone is healthy and enjoying their summers!
Now the dust has settled, I’m reasonably happy with what the Knicks did. Randal’s contract is very good value for his performance, even if he regresses a bit on lower usage from last season. Fournier is exactly the sort of player they needed- can get his own shot and knock down the three. Team defense can make up for the loss of Bullock. Kemba’s health is an unknown, but at $8m per, it’s a reasonable risk to take. And all these contracts are tradeable if the fabled disgruntled star becomes available.
I like all four players the Knicks drafted, and they picked up another 2 future picks in the process to add to the potential trade pot. There were no great free agents the Knicks missed on this summer, and there don’t look like being any next summer either, so building on last year and going into next season with a consistent roster is not the worst outcome.
I feel confident predicting they will make the playoffs again this season, but maybe not as 4th seed. Other teams have gotten better and you would think Miami, Atlanta, and possibly Chicago will finish ahead of them this year, even if their regular season record improves.
take care.

$ really shouldn't dictate starting decisions, otherwise we'd have a bunch of mediocre veterans starting over studs on rookie deals.
I put Mann in at starter because that's what the Clippers did in the postseason when Kawhi went down. Mann 6 starts. Kennard 0 starts. Mann is a really strong outside shooter himself at 41.9% on threes in the regular season and 43.2% in the postseason and more of an all-around offensive threat, along with being a good defender. That being said, I agree Luke to be a better fit in the SL next to Reggie, PG, Morris, Zubac to really spread that floor and then have Mann in that LouWill type role as instant offense off the bench, esp. if they have PatBev, Winslow, Batum, Ibaka in the 2nd unit - none of whom are standout scorers.
I'd put them for next season behind LAL, GSW, UT, PHX, DEN and probably DAL, POR and in that next tier competing for play-in tourney spots with MEM, NO, SAC. They definitely need to at the least trade Rondo for frontcourt help. Rondo won't be happy being 3rd string PG and that frontcourt depth is shaky to say the least. It won't vault them up my standings or anything but it'll certainly balance their depth chart and help them leap other teams in case they suffer injury woes or underachieve.

The Kings, Warriors, and Clippers are among the teams believed to be especially “enamored” with forward Pascal Siakam, according to Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee.
Pretty easy to say the Clippers don't have the goods to land Siakam and they don't have the assets to pull it out of thin air the way they did PG
Sacramento would likely offer Hield + Bagley and not Haliburton or Fox and I think the Raptors easily pass on that. Hield is redundant with Trent and Bagley is a disappointing prospect entering a contract year who will just be forever known as the dude drafted ahead of Luka.
We all know what the Warriors could offer because it's been repeated countless times before the draft. Wiggins + Wiseman + stuff. Don't know that this offer is any more compelling now than it was before but if the Raptors feel more compelled to move Siakam, then this is likely the best offer. Especially to land Wiseman. Sure they have interesting C options with Boucher, Birch, Achiuwa but none have the upside of Wiseman.

Via HR: In case you missed it, a report this morning suggested that Kings GM Monte McNair may be feeling some pressure to make a major addition to the roster, with Ben Simmons and Pascal Siakam among the players on his radar.
If the GM is on the hot seat - and I can easily see Kings ownership being impatient given they bought the team in 2013 and the team is barely any better now than they were back then and still a losing squad - they might very well YOLO on a trade offer and just offer anyone not named Fox (or Holmes/Davis/Harkless since they just re-signed them) for a "name" player.

I'm not one to thumb my nose at 3.8 million dollars, especially on top of how much he lost by not accepting the Lakers' extension offer last summer but his focus needs to be on how best to rebuild his value because this 3.8M is marginal compared to what he can potentially get next summer in a long term deal if he plays well this season.
Reality is Boston is his best option because he can certainly see a solid role there as a 6th man - playing behind and next to Smart - and probably even see some starts since Smart has missed an average of 16.5 games the last 4 season.
Of course does any of this surprise me? Not at all. Schroder is just desperate at this point.
(Also as an aside, I drafted Schroder in that dynasty league YoungThunderCat set up solely on the basis that I expected him to sign with Boston and flash some of that OKC 6th man type production)

Via HR: " The Pelicans, Mavericks, Morons, and Timberwolves are among the teams that have shown interest in Bulls restricted free agent Lauri Markkanen, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, who hears from sources that the price tag on the power forward would be about $15MM per year.
Fischer confirms a previous report that the Bulls are seeking a first-round pick to accommodate a Markkanen sign-and-trade and don’t want to take on any salary, preferring any contracts to be rerouted to a third team. If they maintain that stance, the Bulls would make it very difficult for Markkanen to do anything but accept his $9MM qualifying offer"
The Bulls have the upper hand knowing Lauri needs a S&T to get the $ he wants and they can afford to ask for a 1st round pick to accommodate a move because worst case scenario is he accepts the QO and they have a motivated contract year player on their team next season. For a team trying to make the playoffs, that's not a bad thing.
That being said, New Orleans has a boatload of draft picks courtesy of the AD/Jrue trades. Combine them having a trade exception begin enough to absorb Lauri without sending any salary back to Chicago, they are the ideal trade partner.

Apparently Boston may not be done and are looking at adding Lauri Markkanen via S&T through a 3 team deal that sends salary to OKC and obviously Morons would give picks to both OKC and CHI.
Tatum, Jaylen, Smart, Schroder, Lauri, Josh Richardson, Horford, Robert Williams etc.
Not too shabby.
Still not as good as Brooklyn, Milwaukee or Miami and potentially Philly dependent on what they do. Boston is and still would be in that next tier with NY, Atlanta, Indiana, Chicago and my sleeper team Washington.

Lakers linked to Isaiah Thomas.
It's 2017-2018 all over again - where he started as a teammate with Lebron on the Cavs and ended the season with the Lakers - in the deal that sent Clarkson/Nance Jr to Cleveland
IT would be one of the younger Lakers at a ripe 32.
Speaking of old people, Haslem to re-sign with Miami to take his token vet min salary / roster spot as a defacto assistant coach. Only a matter of time before the Lakers bring back Dudley in the same vein
