Assuming Lakers start Ellington/Gasol - to add shooting next to Russ/Lebron/AD - then Bazemore, Ariza, Melo, Howard definitely form a solid 2nd unit. Just need a quality backup PG, which I was hoping for Mills but obviously that's no longer. Jeff Teague, Ish Smith, Elfrid Payton, Brad Wanamaker, Mikes James, Tim Frazier are options out there right now.

He's not the sexy pick but Wanamaker is a good defender. Seems like a good Warriors fit since they too lost out on Patty
I'd personally like Westbrook, Ellington, Ariza, LBJ, AD
I think Westbrook, Ariza, LBJ, AD finish games

The Miami Heat have pulled the qualifying offer on Kendrick Nunn, making him an unrestricted free agent, sources tell @theathletic @stadium
Mavs could use his scoring off the bench

I think Lebron/AD will close a lot of games at PF/C because it presents the best lineup options to add shooters but we all know how AD feels about playing C, so he'll continue to "start" at PF just like he has since the Lakers acquired him.

The San Antonio Spurs are finalizing sending DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls for Thad Young, a future first-round pick and two second-round picks.
DeRozan 3 years $85M
Ball, LaVine, DeRozan, Patrick Williams, Vucevic Coby White, Markkanen, Aminu
Personally I'd keep Markkanen..but if they trade him I'd look for some more front court help

AND this is why all the talk of DeRozan taking the MLE was utter nonsense from the beginning.
Anyways, well at least the Spurs got something for him I guess.
Meanwhile Bulls loading up.

He's been fairly open about wanting the MAX for months, so this doesn't surprise me.
What he fails to realize is his utter lack of leverage here.

WOW
Lakers sign Kendrick Nunn. I didn't add him on the list of potential backup PGs because I thought he could do elsewhere,
Bye Dennis!
Also THT back to Lakers for 3 years 32M
I mean, I wasn't a HUGE fan of the Russ trade but these other moves really make me feel like this offseason has been a huge success.
Oh and Blazers sign Tony Snell. In case anyone cares about Portland at this stage.

So what are we looking at here
G: Russ, Nunn
G: Ellington, THT, Monk
F: Lebron, Ariza, Bazemore
F: AD, Melo
C: Gasol, Howard
Obviously we'll see a lot of Lebron and AD at PF/C to accommodate the perimeter depth and also because no one in their right mind thinks Gasol/Howard will play all 48 minutes at C anyways. I do think the Lakers should sign another solid big though because IF AD gets hurt that frontcourt becomes real shallow.
Talk about your shakeups with just 4 people returning from last years squad.

Bummer to see him go, especially to another strong squad.

Dennis Schröder was seeking $25MM a year when free agency started, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post.
And now that reality has slapped him in the face, wonder what he and his agent are doing.

Nunn was a shocker, caught it on hoopshype at a stop light on the way home from work. They're loaded. It's no Cody Zeller or Tony Snell but they should be the favorites.

Honestly, how does Dame look at what has transpired the last few days and be happy with the Blazers front office? This team is a helluva lot closer to being in the play-in tourney than they are title contention, and that is just the West, never mind the powerhouses in the East.
They paid Powell, DJJ stuck around and added Snell, McLemore, Zeller and a 2nd rd pick in Greg Brown. Not exactly high powered moves, especially to address their defensive woes.

George Hill to Bucks. He was actually with Milwaukee in portions of 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 (shipped out in the Jrue trade), so he's quite familiar there.
Georges Niang to Sixers. Hustle 3&D type. Career 40.4% on threes.
Jock Landale to Spurs. Who? Apparently a stretch big who was an MVP in an Australian league Sure.
Also the final DeRozan trade has the Spurs getting Thad Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, 2025 1st rd pick (protected and may be conveyed later), 2022 LAL 2nd rd pick, 2025 CHI 2nd rd pick

I've been out the loop out here in Vegas and heading to Jamaica shortly but I just caught the Melo and DeRozan moves. My personal bias loves the Melo move but I think bringing back THT and Dwight Howard are big moves for the Lakers. They missed Dwight Howard last year protecting the rim.
Now time to work on chemistry

THT was definitely a key move given he is the only player the Lakers have signed that isn't either geriatric or signed to a 1 year deal. I'm excited they locked him up to a 3 year deal. He has a ton of competition for perimeter minutes this season but at the least he'll get a ton of experience and be prepped for a much larger role in 2022-2023 when it's probable most of these guys will be gone.
I did miss Dwight. Glad to have him back. Would have been happy with either him or Javale. Lakers could use another frontcourt player still. AD is injury prone and the median age of Lebron, Gasol, Howard, Melo, Ariza is 36. I'll laugh if they just bring back Dudley and convince Millsap to come over. I mean Millsap would be an awesome, if not luxury, addition but both are 36 also.

Hassan Whiteside to Utah. Replaces Favors. They also kept Conley and added Rudy Gay.
Warriors/Lakers getting all the hype in the West but Utah should be in the mix too with a core of Conley, Mitchell, Bogdanovic, O'Neal, Gobert, Clarkson, Ingles, Gay, Whiteside and their 2nd rd pick Jared Butler - leading scorer on NCAA Champ Baylor - was a massive steal, who only slid due to a heart condition but the NBA cleared him.

My friends were laughing at Schroder and wondering where he'll end up.
I don't know what $ is left there for him but his best, maybe last bet, might be the Knicks. Even after signing Rose, drafting McBride and having Quickley and technically Luca Vildoza, they are still said to be interested in Schroder (and Reggie Jackson) and they still have about 8M in cap space left. It's not 25M but a 1+1 starting at 8M with a guarantee of good minutes might be the best Schroder can do at this stage to salvage his value.
How far does this Knicks team go?
G: Rose, Schroder, Quickley, McBride
G: Barrett, Burks, Grimes
F: Fournier, Knox
F: Randle, Toppin, Sims
C: Robinson, Noel, Gibson

While Dame is lamenting the lack of action from his team, I have to wonder if Beal is really happy with the Wizards' offseason if/when they trade for Dinwiddie. That deal has yet to be made and would likely involve a 3rd team since Brooklyn doesn't want to take on unwanted salary (OKC enters the chat). Word is it could be part of the Westbrook to Lakers trade. Something like:
Lakers get Westbrook + 2 2nd rd picks Wizards get Dinwiddie, KCP, Harrell + #22 pick
Nets get Kuzma
Thunder get DeAndre Jordan, Chandler Hutchison, WAS 2025 1st rd pick (and WAS removes their protections on the 2023 1st rd pick, already belonging to OKC) and WAS 2nd rd pick
Wizards could start Dinwiddie, Beal, KCP, Rui, T. Bryant and have A. Holiday, Avdija, Kispert, Bertans, Harrell off the bench. Not too shabby.

I'm certain in terms of length he'll at most take a 2 year offer where the 2nd year is a player option. His goal has to be to re-enter free agency in 2022 and play 2021-2022 with a proverbial chip on his shoulder, and will probably talk about it every chance he gets and ramble something about respect.

Via Shams: " Free agent guard Bryn Forbes has agreed to a deal with the Spurs, sources tell @theathletic @stadium. Forbes returns to San Antonio."
Forbes is a pretty good player and really good shooter. Last 3 seasons he's at 11ppg on 42.1% on threes - making about 2.2 a game. He was a starter for 2 of those years and then a key reserve for the Champion Bucks this season. Given the market for shooting, perhaps he really missed playing for the Spurs - where he spent 4 of his 5 seasons - because I have to imagine he had a better market than signing with a team that already has a surplus of shooting guards.
I know the Spurs' moves have been highly questionable but I'm thinking the drafting of Primo/Weiskamp and the signing of Forbes is a precursor to a trade - perhaps Lonnie Walker as he enters a contract year or maybe even a bigger trade involving Derrick White.

Spurs have the most cluttered roster of guards. Maybe Pop wants to tank to leave Hammon with some young talent. But that's a 11-12th seed team.

After picking up the option on WCS, re-signing THJ and adding Bullock, they are tapped out.
Charlotte and OKC are the only teams with legitimate cap space - and neither is going to give Dennis the type of $ he wants - and the Knicks have about 8M.
I think NY on a 1+1 is his best bet because his competition at PG is Rose, who is solid but at the same time he is turning 33 this year, injury prone and the Knicks will want to load manage him to keep him fresh for the postseason. Given their interest in him, this is a good spot for him to see regular minutes and also a good chance at a fair amount of starts to bolster his stats and FA value.

With Aldridge gone, DeRozan obviously on the way out, some good young talent, a lottery pick and lots of cap space, this was their chance to really "rebuild" And then they go out and freakin' sign soon to be 30 year old Dougy McBuckets and broken down Zach Collins and apparently reject trading down options just to reach for Primo
For years I've spoken highly of the Spurs front office but ever since Buford retired as GM, things have seemingly gone downhill. Actually evenbefore then with the Kawhi trade, the whole Marcus Morris situation etc. I don't know what they're doing. I'm telling you, they've become the Raiders with draft reaches, overpaying mediocre players and apparently being content chasing a .500 record.
