Ah the 2010 offseason. I remember that fondly on the Knicks Scout Board. Only other time that matches that activity was during the whole Melo trade drama - especially all the hate against me because I thought the Nets were a legitimate contender for Melo's services. Why posters, namely Ralow, felt the need to make personal attacks over that stance was always beyond me insisting it was ALWAYS the Knicks. It's like AD / Lakers. Sure it always seemed like it was inevitable but to ignore that other teams were at legitimately in contention is ignoring reality and how teams work. Anyhow, congrats, the Knicks ended up getting Melo. How'd that work out?

NBA TV’s ratings through the 1st quarter of the season: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TNT - down 23% ESPN - down 20% RSNs - down 13%

Admittedly I haven't been locked in on the NBA this year either. And the load management early I'm sure hasn't helped ratings. Sucks when your primetime game is missing star players due to "rest" or whatever you need to call it now.

Well..my team is the Lakers..and I still don't like LeBron..and and being on East coast..I'm not staying up to 12am+ to watch them..and TNT games I usually just watch Barkley and the boys..haven't even seen an ESPN game I dont think.
I usually watch NBA TV..they have line look ins in all games..so I get my needs on that.
Harden & Freak might be top 2 players..but they suck to watch play..

I find myself looking more at highlights than actual games. I probably follow the Mavs the most right now because I like watching Luka. Tried to catch Portland games now since Melo is back and some Lakers games.
Yeah I like NBA TV the most because they keep it fun but also breakdown the games. Probably a little tired of the Kenny-Barkley-Shaq lineup at TNT.

And on NBA TV..they'll show the full box score and stats for both teams..so I'll watch the high lights of the game then check if they are available in fantasy lol. But naa..I don't sit and watch a game for a couple hours anymore. I'd record Lakers games and watch for Kobe, but yea I'm more into stats and highlights and watching the recap of the game.

Honestly, the only regular season anyone truly cares about is the NFL and obviously a large part of that is the 16 game season. I honestly don't care about say Game 18 of the Lakers' season UNLESS it's a prime game in terms of day/opponent. Really, outside of prime games / All-Star weekend, I don't watch much basketball at all until the playoffs - and even then I more often than not don't care about Round 1.
The NBA knows this and that's why they are spearheading all these changeups with the shorter season and midseason tourney.
For me, it's simple - Penalize load management for prime games. I get it's now part of the game and you can't outright stop it but try and deter it. If you want to win back the fans, you can't have the stars sitting out prime games for "rest".
- Cut the season to 66 games. 82 is just too long. The season is essentially 6 months.
- Make the playoffs 12 teams rather than 16 because I continue to find it dumb that more than half the league makes the playoffs. Top two teams in each conference gets a bye. Gives incentive to strive for strong regular season records.
- Make Round 1 best of 5 and speed up the playoffs by actually having back to backs. The Raptors played 24 games in 61 days. That's needlessly long.
I like basketball and all but EIGHT months is just too much from the opener to the end of the finals.

That was all over the news this morning.
Should it have counted? Yeah, it was a blown call. On the other hand, to blame a loss on that - even knowing the game ended with 2OT - is ridiculous. They had ample time left in the game and a double digit lead at that point. Maybe next time Harden needs to not get fancy with his dunks to ensure it goes down cleanly?

That said the ref explanation was just dumb:
"As to could the play have been reviewed, it is a reviewable matter, but you have a window of 30 seconds to challenge the play during that timeout that he had and while they were protesting the call, trying to get clarification of it, that window passed. So therefore, it elapsed, and they were not able to do it."
I know you want to not slow down the game but only 30 seconds to challenge the play during a timeout? I feel like the NBA is ignoring something every parents teaches their child about taking your time and doing something right rather than just doing it fast.

Not to mention it was a blown call that went the Rockets way in the same game. Harden clearly steps on the out of bounds line with possession of the ball yet no call was made. Doubt seriously the league wants to get into reviewing every possession of games to determine mistakes and replays.

I think it was Mike Greenberg on TV today joking how the NBA has 82 games.... and people don't care about 81 of them.
Obviously an exaggeration to be humorous but it goes back to my point of the season is too long and people just don't care about a lot of regular season games.
Even with Fantasy Basketball I don't pay much attention.

Another example of ineptitude by the Knicks. They'll never be able to sustain a winning culture or environment with current management and ownership in place. Too many non-basketball personnel making basketball decisions. This is why I barely support or watch Knicks basketball anymore.
Sucks for Fizdale because I don't feel like he had a chance. He got hooked into clearing cap space for 2019 just to end signing Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, Wayne Ellington, Elfrid Payton and Marcus Morris. They could've turned that cap space into so much more this offseason with teams looking for 3rd team to facilitate trades.

I mean clearly Fizdale is to blame for not leading that awesome Porzingis-less roster with the free agent "haul" of Bobby Portis, Elfrid Payton, Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, Wayne Ellington, Marcus Morris, Reggie Bullock to more glory.

So per Shams Mike Miller will be the interim HC of the Knicks with Keith Bogans being promoted from the G-League staff.
The team also has Jud Buechler, Royal Ivey as assistant coaches.
Makes me feel really old to see guys I watched as players now becoming coaches.
Well not as old as seeing the kids of players in the NBA. Like Sabonis, Hardaway, Jaren Jackson, GRob3, Trent

NBA statement on Rockets protest denied from Spurs loss on Dec. 3: “Commissioner Silver determined that the Rockets had sufficient time to overcome the error” when James Harden’s dunk, with 7:50 remaining and 102-89 lead, did not count.

Wait, different Mike Miller haha.
This Mike Miller is a 55 year old who has been a coach since 1989, mostly college until getting to the G League in 2013. Not Mike Miller, the former lottery pick by the Magic who retired 2 years ago. He's not even 40 yet.

On that note, hilarious seeing how it went for Trae Young and the Hawks after he said "Game over" versus the Heat</abbr>
Spoiler alert: Not well.
Trae Young is putting up awesome stats but his team is 6-18</abbr> Might need to tone down the bravado buddy</abbr>

I thought the Hawks would be much better. Granted they've been without John Collins but considering the moves they made, they should still be around .500 in my opinion. Young is a having a great year, Huerter and Carter are playing well and they have some decent bench depth.

Hawks are terrible defensively. 28th in points allowed, 23rd in FG% allowed, 21st in 3FGM and 3FG% allowed, 28th in FTA and FTM allowed, 29th in offensive rebounds allowed.
The Hawks also commit the 2nd most turnovers, grab the 3rd fewest rebounds and are dead last in 3FG%.
Definitely missing John Collins on a lot of these fronts.

I knew turnovers were going to be the give and take with Trae Young. He's playing well enough offensively for you to overlook it but he's always been careless with the ball. And defensively, he's that great either. That's the next leap he needs to take and maybe the Hawks turn this thing around.
Looking at the worst teams in the league and draft prospects, I feel like we're going to start hearing LaMelo will be a Knick talk soon. In terms of bad teams in the top 5, really only New York needs a point guard. The media can start getting Knick fans hopes up just to crush them when they fall to 4th in the draft lol.

The Hawks are definitely a team on the rise.
Trae. Collins. Hunter. Huerter. Reddish. They have either very interesting trade chips this deadline with their large expiring contracts and/or a TON of cap space this summer. They also own all their future 1st rd picks are owed a lot of picks going forward - including potentially two future 1st rounders.
So this is a team that can either play the long game OR has the assets to make an aggressive move.
