Devastating injury for Lamb and big blow to the Pacers.
Probably see more of Brogdon at SG with McConnell/A. Holiday at PG.

Charlotte Hornets guard Malik Monk has been suspended indefinitely after violating the NBA's anti-drug program, according to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic.
Per Charania, the suspension will continue until he's "determined to be in compliance" by the league.

Jazz to remove Mike Conley from starting lineup
That hasn't worked out so well

Basically everyone thought the Conley move was brilliant for the Jazz. Certainly surprising it has flopped.
On the flip side, they've made an array of solid moves. Signing Bojan, trading draft bust Exum for Clarkson, finding guys like Ingles and O'Neale off the scrap heap and locking them up long term, trading #46 and cash to Denver to move up to draft Gobert #27, trading Lyles and the #24 pick to move up to #13 to draft Mitchell. Pretty solid what they have done despite losing their best player in Hayward for nothing via free agency in 2017 and losing Rubio last summer.
Conley has a 34.5M player option next year and at age 33 in October, have to figure he's a lock to pick that up. Naturally the Jazz would shop him because no sense in having a 34.M backup with the entire starting lineup locked up next season. Conley would no doubt support a move since he wouldn't want to be a reserve either. Just trade him to the Knicks. They were said to want a "scoring PG" and they love them their veterans on expiring deals. Plus it keeps their 2021 cap space intact if they have any delusions of chasing Greek Freak. The Knicks can easily have the cap space this summer to take him right in and with Clarkson a FA and Gobert/Mitchell due massive contracts kicking in after next season, I'm sure the Jazz wouldn't mind some savings.

Houston Rockets guard James Harden defended his style of play during an interview with ESPN's Rachel Nichols on Friday.
At the 5:52 mark of the following video, Harden noted that he has to constantly work on his skill set since he doesn't have the same size and athleticism as some other players:
"I wish I could be 7-feet, run and just dunk. That takes no skill at all," Harden said. "I gotta actually learn how to play basketball and how to have skill. I'll take that any day."
While Harden didn't mention a player by name, his comment came after Nichols mentioned Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo's joke about taking Boston Morons guard Kemba Walker over Harden in the All-Star Game draft since he wanted someone who would pass the ball.
While Giannis seemed to be kidding, Harden didn't find it funny considering he ranks ninth in the NBA in assists per game with 7.3, while Walker is tied for 36th with 5.0 per game.

Nice little rivalry brewing

yea I saw that quote. Harden has a point. I'd rather watch Harden play that Giannis..but that's not saying a whole lot

Post by varsity on Feb 28, 2020 14:15:42 GMT -5
I rather watch Giannis honestly. But I agree both styles aren't appealing to the eye. Giannis brute, free for all offense of just driving and being athletic enough to make plays OR Harden's dribbling and dribbling and dribbling to find his shot are both annoying. That said, if Giannis starts hitting that 3pt shot consistently, he's going to win another MVP soon.

and Zion's first 15 games are great and all..but having missed 45 games..I'm still not giving him ROY over Ja Same. It's impressive but a 15 game sample size isn't enough to convince me he should be ROY either. If he plays in every game left for N.O., he'll only play in 37 games this year which is less than half of the regular season. If Ja missed the rest of the regular season, he'd already eclipse the amount of games Zion could potentially play (37 games) by 17. Availability should count for something.

Completely agree Ja should win it over Zion due primarily to the number of games played.
That said, IF New Orleans ends up overtaking Memphis to get the the 8th playoff spot when the season ends and Zion continues to rack up these types of numbers (currently 24.1ppf 6.8rpg 2.1apg 59.3fg%), I can certainly see a ground swell for Zion among the voters.

Just saw the Nuggets bought out McRae. Surprising to see how bad he flopped there and that the team was so quick to cut him loose. Really thought he was a sneaky good pickup given what we was doing in Washington. Word is he is headed to the Suns. Clearly he prioritized a place where he can get PT to boost his FA value rather than a contender. At 28 and still looking for his first decent payday - by NBA standards - it's the logical decision.

In fairness to McRae, I think the Suns are claiming him off waivers so it isn't a situation where he picked to head to Phoenix.

Ah, I just saw the ESPN Article that said: "Guard Jordan McRae has agreed to a contract buyout with the Denver Nuggets, clearing the way for him to join the Phoenix Suns, league sources told ESPN. Phoenix could claim him in the waivers process, allowing it to use his Bird rights to re-sign him to a new deal this summer. If he clears waivers, the Suns have a roster spot to sign him for the rest of the season." So I read it as he was going to the Suns regardless of how.
Either way it's the best landing spot for him. I'm sure he'd rather go to PHX and probably see 20ish minutes to boost his FA market than clear waivers and go to say the Lakers with a very uneven role to try and ride the coattails to a ring.

Spike Lee was First Take this morning and said he's used the same entrance for the last 28 years. He even said he's used that entrance last Wednesday and he's no longer attending Knicks games this season. He did confirm Dolan came to speak to him at halftime and he told Dolan that he's done the same thing he's been doing and Dolan informed them the Knicks were making changes to which he wasn't notified. It's interesting given the Knicks just hired Leon Rose that day was this a policy that Rose or new management implemented. Either way, the Knicks should know better to make another spectacle out the situation.

Yea, I just watched a 3-4 minute segment of him on First Take. But I've never been a fan of Spike..and I'm actually siding with the Knicks on this one. Yea they should have informed him..but they didn't so they told him then and there, and he should have abide by it. Sure they could have let him through..then explain ."from now on you..." but Spike is just making a fuss and doing his rounds about it.

I usually side against celebrity superfans who feel entitled to special treatment but in this case, I'll side with Spike and his reaction if it's true that he'd been using the same entrance for 28 years and was suddenly now barred from using it without prior notice - and was likely embarrassed by security. Sure he could have just accepted the change in policy without making a whole deal out of it but when you have stuck by this moribund mess of a franchise through thick and thin and they don't even show you the respect you deserve as a committed fan to at least give a heads up that they are no longer allowing this or at least allowing it this time but saying going forward it's not allowed, I can understand having a flippant reaction.

Not only that the Knicks use Spike's "fandom" as a marketing ploy when it comes to business ventures. It's a reason why he's able to use that entrance when other celebs aren't allowed. So to change it without notifying him before coming is a slap in the face. When you need him to promote your product or brand, you have no problem with him. And as he said, when you want his money you don't have a problem with calling him. But now you embarrass him with security? It's just another example of poor management and ownership. The Lakers aren't making a scene with Jack Nicholson regardless of what he says or does. And again if you are the Knicks, why do you continually pick these fights? Oakley, right or wrong, is beloved by Knicks fans and it was a better way of handling it. And now it's camera footage of your most beloved fan being denied by security. It's just better ways of handling these things.

Derrick Rose is hurt. Shocking, I know. Ankle sprain. Out weeks. Plural.
The Pistons are mulling a waiver claim of Jordan McRae and would have higher priority than the Suns.
At 20-42 and 7.5 games out of the 8th seed, the team isn't really in playoff contention (closer to the worst record in the league than they are a playoff spot) but if they want to tell themselves they are still in the hunt then getting McRae to replace Rose is a logical move. Plus claiming him gives the team his early bird rights, so at the least they can take a look at a player they could look to keep beyond this season. It's not like the team is lavish in talent.

Knicks put out a statement about the Spike Lee situation
“The idea that Spike Lee is a victim because we have repeatedly asked him to not use our employee entrance and instead use a dedicated VIP entrance – which is used by every other celebrity who enters The Garden – is laughable. It’s disappointing that Spike would create this false controversy to perpetuate drama. He is welcome to come to The Garden anytime via the VIP of general entrance; just not through our employee entrance, which is what he and Jim (Dolan) agreed to last night when they shook hands.”
I get their frustration with Spike but this is certainly not the proper way for an organization to respond. Sounds like it was written by Trump. Just missing the word "hoax".

Knicks and James Dolan are just tone deaf. Not saying Spike is right for wanting special treatment. But it's very hard to make the argument that a guy that has fueled your business and brand and has gotten special treatment for over 25+ years now suddenly is delusional for thinking that treatment still extends to him.
Again, I just don't understand the point of picking of these fights.

might be jumping ship over to team Spike. There's a right and a wrong way to release a professional statement..and that's not the way to go about it. Spike comes off as he deserves a sense of entitlement all the time anyways..so I'm not surprised he reacted that way. They should have let him go...but then have the discussion (not courtside at halftime) that there's a new policy.
I bet Thibs can't want to coach that franchise.

It's pretty crazy to think the Knicks haven't won a title since 1973, haven't made the finals since 1994, have made the playoffs only four times and won one playoff series since 2001 and have been lousy to downright dreadful since 2013.
The crazy being the talent they've had since 1973 - especially 15 years of Ewing but numerous other HOFers/All-Stars The crazy being the deep pockets ownership exhibited allowing for bold trades The crazy being the numerous high draft picks that resulted from many seasons of futility The crazy being the several offseasons where they had big time cap space with delusions of grandeur
The Knicks should let Spike skateboard through any entrance he damn well pleases for his continued support of this nonsense
