I think they'd rather have Collison, so will try and go after him before the Lakers get him. I'd personally like to see IT back to Boston
Makes sense but they should probably sign Collison and then buyout IT, not vice versa. IT has until March 1 to be waived to be able to playoff for another team in the playoffs.

After trading Walton and releasing IT, the Clippers will have 2 open roster spots. They obviously want Collison, who is said to prefer the Lakers BUT as noted the Lakers are also looking at JR Smith. A lot of moving parts.

Via Ramona Shelbourne: Following up on Lakers-NYK talks. It wasn’t just Kyle Kuzma LA didn’t want to include in a deal for Marcus Morris. The Knicks also wanted Danny Green (to make the $ work) and future second round picks, per sources. Lakers decided that was too steep and walked away late.

As they should have.
I don't blame the Knicks for trying to extract as much as they could from the Lakers - no doubt pushing the "If you don't trade for him, we are going to trade him to the Clippers" card - but that's just unreasonable. Morris is solid but he's also a 30 year old impending free agent. Calm down.
What the Clippers gave up for him is far more reasonable.

Worth noting: Darren Collison is at the Lakers-Rockets game tonight sitting next to Jeanie Buss.

Rondo is about done.. can't believe the Lakers lost to the small ball Rockets.. I mean come on Vogel.. do some coaching.. every offensive possession should have resulted in either a drive to the bucket or lob to a big man.. and once again Kuz wets the bed.. getting bullied by Westbrook..

Collison wasn't too reassuring upon his exit from Staples Center. His quote was "I was just here to watch a game." Take it for what it is. It's probably more than just that given he was seated next to Jeanie Buss, which I doubt was coincidental, but he didn't give Lakers fans exactly a thumbs up.
It's some speculation that Marvin Williams may be a potential buyout candidate from the Hornets.

Was looking at the Hornets' roster and I don't know that I've ever seen a roster so barren of high-end talent without intentionally bottoming out - like the Sixers during "the process".
Sure they'll have cap space this summer and another lottery pick but any reason to believe they won't botch that somehow.

Also worth noting for Knicks going forward: there’s a distinct possibility of Knicks entering buyout conversations with veteran Wayne Ellington if he isn’t moved by deadline, per SNY sources
Sixers would be a must need fit..Lakers could use the shooting. Then again Dallas..as so on..

Then again Dallas..as so on.. The Knicks need to free up minutes for the kids and they have a couple of guys in Westchester who it would be good to see get some NBA minutes. I would be fine with them buying out Ellington.

Marvin Williams isn't Marcus Morris but he's an athletic SF/PF with range and good defense. Definitely would be a nice pickup for a contender to boost a bench.
I'm sure the Lakers will be mentioned but if Williams is concerned about playing time, he may see a frontcourt with Lebron, AD, Kuz, Dwight, McGee - and guys like KCP/Green seeing SF minutes - and not see an opening. Lakers need a Collison more than a Williams anyways.
I could very well see him staying East among the contenders. Maybe the Sixers go after him. Even after adding Burks/GRob3, they could use more shooting, esp. from the frontcourt. Maybe Toronto takes a look to round out that frontcourt rotation with Pascal, Gasol and Ibaka - all of whom have legit 3pt range, which is a key reason that team is so good. Plus as insurance for injury seems that team is cursed this year. Morons definitely look like a viable option after doing nothing at the deadline and being rather thin in the frontcourt. Miami was obviously trying to get Gallinari. Much like not being Morris, Williams isn't as good as Gallinari either but he is a solid consolation prize at the cost of nothing. Not sure though how their hard cap plays into it or if they freed up enough flexibility with the Iggy deal.
If he does go West, maybe back to Utah? They could definitely use some frontcourt help. Their backup PF right now is Niang. Dallas is always looking around. Would anyone be surprised if Houston made a run at him.... or is he too tall? Maybe OKC. Their backup PF is Darius Bazley....

Marvin is signing with the Bucks.

Naturally he goes to a team I didn't mention but if he wants to chase a ring, then going to the 44-7 Bucks makes sense.
They could easily cut Bender for him but curious where he'd get minutes. The team has All-Stars at SF/PF, very solid backups and so much depth they go 12 each night if they want.
Poor DJ Wilson. Always getting buried. He's good. Deserves a shot.

MJ is getting rid of all his busts as MKG is getting bought out. Likely signing with the Mavs.

Amazing Rich Cho lasted as Hornets GM from 2011 to 2018. Honestly the only thing he did right was draft Kemba..... in 2011 Guess we will see how good of a GM our good friend Kupchak really is in cleaning up this mess. Not much to really build around with arguably the weakest "core" in the league of Rozier, Graham, PJ Washington, Bridges, Monk but flexibility going forward. The team owns all its 1st rd picks. They are currently 6th worst record this season but only 1/2 a game ahead of New York and Minnesota. They are 3 and 3.5 games ahead of Atlanta and Cleveland but those teams made some trade deadline pickups that may help them win some games, whereas clearly the Hornets are going backwards. So they *could* end up with the 2nd worst record when all is said and done. As long as they do better than MKG with that high of a pick. The team is also looking at good cap space this summer and massive cap space in 2021 when ALL their horrid contracts are off the books by then (MKG, Biyombo, Zeller, Batum, Williams).
IF Kupchak wanted to make a bold move this summer, he has the tools. Of course odds are that move ends up being something like DeMar Derozan.

Hornets should be looking at 25-30 million in cap room this summer assuming Batum doesn't opt out of his 27 million freeing up more. So in theory, they're pretty much out of MAX free agent sweepstakes. Their best bet is use this 1 year of cap space to take on some 1 year deals and assets from teams looking to lower their salary cap or luxury tax number. It's not a big free agent market anyway this year and I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize future cap space.
But this Kupchak and the Hornets so I can easily see them giving Hassan Whiteside a massive 4 year deal.

Kupchak: "Well we have 4/5 of our SL solid with Rozier, Graham, Bridges, Washington and we were not mandated but suggested we need to make the playoffs next year since we haven't made it since 2016. All we need is an impact big man and we are solid. Whiteside? Drummond if he opts out? Favors? Thompson? Ibaka? A healthy Cousins? Sure. Plus we have so much salary coming off the books this summer and next we can totally afford a sizable 4 year deal for one of these guys"
Perfect logic to get the team right back to that 36 to 43 win range, fighting for a low playoff seed comfort zone of theirs. If they did make a play for a C though, I think a good move would be looking at Myles Turner.
