I watched all of Round 1, most of Round 2 and more of Round 3 than I care to admit.
My thoughts:
Legit winners:
Tompa Bay: Wirfs/Winfield Jr. slid and were great picks and Vaughn/Tyler Johnson were great additions to the offense. KDavis/Russell on defense are upside picks. RB Calais is a return specialist and ran a 4.42 40. Kills me inside to see the Bucs get Gronk and crush the draft in the same week. Curious what they do with Howard or Brate.
Baltimore: Got more defensive playmakers - namely Queen - but Dobbins/Duvernay make that offense that much scarier and they made a couple OL additions.
Dallas: Lamb at 17 was just unfair, Gallimore in 3rd/Biadasz in 4th were steals and Diggs in the 2nd/Robinson in the 4th address their secondary needs.
Minnesota: Had a million picks. I don't know most of them but the ones I do know were home runs - Jefferson?Gladney/Ezta - and I read others were good defensive moves.
Arizona: Simmons at #8 was big and OT Jones/RB Benjamin were massive values where selected. Given they used their 2nd rd pick to get Hopkins, it's a big win.
Cleveland: They solidified their OL, made strong defensive additions, added a quality TE and a nice value with WR Peoples-Jones in the 6th.
Cincinnati: Burrow is the key, Higgins is sold, Wilson/Davis-Gaither were great value and I don't know the last three but at least they play in the trenches.
Pretty good
Denver: Team loaded up on offensive weapons for Drew Lock adding Jeudy, Hamler, TE Albert O and OL Cushenberry. That said a bit much and they could have had more balance with defense.
Tennessee: Only had 6 picks but their first 3 picks were very solid - and I really like this RB Evans as a compliment to Henry.
Carolina: Expected to heavy on defense but they went all-defense. While they made some great picks, they could have spent a pick or two on the OL.
San Francisco: They could have gone Lamb and Blacklock and had the flashier names but going Kinlaw and Aiyuk was probably the better outcome. Trading for Trent Williams to replace Staley gets them the W.
Buffalo: Used their 1st to get Stefon Diggs, got RB Moss in the 3rd and a steal with Epenesa in the 2nd. I'm not a big Fromm guy but in the 5th, why not. Put some pretend pressure on Josh Allen, who now has no excuse.
NY Jets: Got their OL help in Becton, smartly moved up for Mims in the 2nd and I like Perine in the 4th. Davis was a reach in the 3rd though and why draft QB Morgan in the 4th?
Did alright
Indianapolis: Some intriguing offensive additions with WR Pittman, RB Taylor (but they passed on Dobbins), QB Eason. Also turned their 1st in Buckner.
Jacksonville: They went hard at defense, as they should, and got solid pieces. Felt they should have gotten more offensive help though than just Shenault, granted he can be good.
Miami: Got Tua, which is great. They addressed the OL but Jackson was arguably a reach at #18. As was their #30 pick. Wasn't overly excited about any of their defensive picks - except maybe DE Weaver in the 5th. Trading 5th for Breida was fine but for a rebuilding team, having Jordan Howard/Matt Breida as your RBs is questionable. They should have gone RB at #30 rather than reach for a luxury CB pick. Had they gone Swift at #30, this is a home run 1st round.
NY Giants: Didn't draft a single skill player. 10 picks with their first 5 being 3 OL + 2 in the secondary. Probably smart as they have ample skill talent.
New Orleans: They came out with only 4 picks based on moves but Ruiz, Baun and Trautman should contribute right away.
Pittsburgh: No 1st round pick but they added their usual defensive talent. Claypool/McFarland are intriguing offensive adds but with limitations.
Washington: Chase Young is the #1 talent. Got some intriguing offensive guys in Gibson/Gandy-Golden. They traded Trent Williams and will try to replace him with 4th round pick Charles. Could have also drafted a TE, granted Randy Moss' kid signing as an undrafted FA is interesting.
Kansas City: Edwards-Helaire will be fun for fantasy but I felt they should have gone secondary as they have Damien Williams. They also could have gone WR/DT based on upcoming contract situations.
LA Rams: No 1st rd pick but Akers/Van Jefferson will help replace Gurley/Cooks, Hopkins is a nice TE and they got some defensive help to replace Fowler Jr.
Detroit: Okudah is their prize and some may see Swift that way too but Kerryon is just two years removed from being #43. He's still talented and they should have drafted a RB later to compliment Kerryon, not replace him. They made some good defensive additions but I feel they could have gotten a QB project behind Stafford and a better WR than Cephus.
LA Chargers: Only had 6 picks but they got their QB in Herbert, moved up for a stud in Murray, Kelley is a good RB to replace Gordon as the compliment to Ekeler and KJ Hill was great value in the 7th who is similar to Keenan in style. That said, they didn't draft a single OL player.
What are you doing?
Green Bay: Obviously. This is a team that badly needed to get Aaron Rodgers some help and all they did was move up get his replacement, get a RB with their 2nd pick when they already had a stud tandem with Jones/JWilliams and they drafted only one pass catcher - and it was at TE. The rumbling is they want to go focus their offense around the run game, which I suppose would explain drafting Dillon and three offensive lineman but you have a HOF QB still playing well and you still need to pass the ball to open up the run. Some seem to think Funchess, Lazard, Kumerow, MVS and St. Brown are enough next to Davante. I am not one of those people.
New England: So was it Bill's Dog Nike doing the drafting? Patriots drafted two skill players. Both TEs. No QB. No WR. They went 3 on the OL and then shored up the defense. Sounds like a Belichik is still drafting as if Tom Brady is the QB and he can help make up for the offensive lack of firepower. I have to think Bill has a plan for QB post-draft. If they stick with Stidham, this wreaks of Tank for Trevor.
Philadelphia: I know a lot of people are questioning why the Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round after giving Wentz a huge contract. Probably because Wentz is always hurt and their backup was Nate Sudfeld. So I can see the need to have a capable backup. Plus Hurts could have a Taysom Hill-like role when Wentz is active. That said, it was a big reach, especially with AJ Epenesa sitting right there to fill a major need. Also not a fan of Reagor over Jefferson or them burning picks on more WRs in the 5th and 6th. Should have gone CB with one of them.
Seattle: I feel like they don't know anything but reaching for defenders but in this case their one OL pick was a reach too. Also Seattle had Olsen, Dissly, Hollister at TE already. So why draft 2 more? Could have also gotten a better WR prospect than Freddie Swain in the 6th and frankly I had no clue who RB DeeJay Dallas was in the 4th.
Chicago: They drafted the best TE in the draft with their top pick. Nagy likes TEs but they already had a bunch and had bigger needs. Jaylon Johnson was a nice pick but they didn't really seem to hit much on the rest of their picks in terms of upside/value. Should have hit OL way higher than 7th round. That's a Seahawk type blunder.
Atlanta: They failed to move up for a CB and had to reach for Terrell at #16. Hennessy was good value but they didn't get enough upside on defense overall.
Houston: Got solid value with Blacklock in the 2nd but the rest of the picks were unspectacular. Heck is a decent OL player but it cost them #136, #248, #250 to move up 10 spots for him.
Raiders:
They deserve their own category.
Ruggs over Lamb/Jeudy. I vomit thinking Lamb fell to the Cowboys at #17. Ruggs better turn into Tyreek Hill/prime DeSean Jackson and not Tedd Ginn.
No matter how you slice it Arnette was a huge reach at #19. Just saw something that said he had a 0% probability of being picked in Round 1. Mayock's justifications for this pick sound like something Matt Millen would say. He has the skill and swagger but character issues.
Bowden Jr. looks like a fun player because he can play QB/RB/WR but he screams gadget player to me.
Bryan Edwards is a strong possession WR and RZ threat and I like him in a vacuum but did this team really need 3 WRs in their first 4 picks though? DT Jordan Elliott would have been a great pick.
Muse will be a special teams asset who will try to work his way in as a hybrid S/LB guy. This pick was a big reach though. His grade was 6th round.
G John Simpson is big and powerful and I like it. Probably their best pick of the draft and allows them to trade Gabe Jackson.
CB Robertson is a defender akin to Arnette in that he is tough with swagger and a ballhawk. His knock is size but he has big upside and hard to argue at pick 139.
Combination of annoying reaches/passing on preferred players and just enough upside where Gruden/Mayock might get the last laugh.
