Just saw online there is a rumor circling that the Thunder are willing to trade CP3 to Dallas for Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee.
The logic is easy for the Thunder. They save 74.4M overall and specifically wipe that 44.2M in 2021-2022 setting the team up for massive 2021 cap space. Plus THJ is a fairly capable player who alongside SGA, Schroeder, Gallinari, Adams, Roberson, Ferguson, Muscala, Noel could make them somewhat competitive next season.
The logic for Dallas though..... eh. Even a guy like Cuban might bristle at the idea of taking on that contract. Not to mention on the court CP3 is a very questionable fit alongside Luka and the team already has a hoard of PGs with Curry, Delon Wright, Barea and Brunson. Sure CP3 has "name recognition" and is, when healthy, better than all of them but is he really that much of an upgrade. I mean, Wright + Curry is actually a fairly capable tandem and Brunson flew under the radar last season with a good rookie season and all 3 of these guys are signed through 2022 at least. Unless OKC threw in two 1st rd picks..... then maybe Dallas listens.

I dont see Cuban doing it. CP3 is a ball pounder..and that takes away what Luka is best at. 3-4 years ago sure..but I wouldn't do it since basically just trading for the name

Yeah, don't see it. Even Cuban has to see that in THIS Western Conference, Dallas isn't a CP3 away from "contending". And you take usage away from your two young franchise cornerstones.

Luka/Porzingis are a solid young tandem to build around and the team has an array of quality role players (THJ, Powell, Wright, Curry, Boban, Brunson, Justin Jackson) to either build around or use as trade chips - along with the expiring contract of Courtney Lee. This team is realistically one bold move away from potentially being the next Nuggets/Blazers-type squad.... and CP3 is NOT that move.

I wouldn't do either. I just don't see the fit between Luka and CP3 in the backcourt. Dallas should just give the keys to Luka and let him run the show with hopes that KP can complement him as a tandem for the future. I saw pics of KP working out and he put on some significant muscle so hopefully he stays healthy and Dallas has something to work with.
